ANSSI TIKANMÄKI
Anssi Tikanmäki (born 1955) studied music in the Sibelius Academy and was qualified as a music teacher.
Tikanmäki composed the orchestral suite ”Finnish Landscapes” (Maisemakuvia Suomesta), which was premiered in 1980 at a concert by the Sibelius Academy Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jorma Panula. ”Landscapes” was also recorded for television and released on disc in 1981. In 2017 ”Landscapes” received the first instrumental gold record in Finland.
In the beginning of the 1980s Tikanmäki started as a freelance composer. He got to know film directors Mika and Aki Kaurismäki and began collaborating with them. First Tikanmäki composed the music for the film ”The Worthless” (1982). This was followed by ”The Clan” (1984) and a number of other films directed by Mika Kaurismäki. Tikanmäki has also composed the music for feature films by other Finnish directors and for a number of old silent films. His biggest film projects to date has been the score for the silent film ”Juha” directed by Aki Kaurismäki (1999), and ”The Girl King” directed by Mika Kaurismäki (2014).
Since 1986 Tikanmäki has been the conductor of the Anssi Tikanmäki Filmorchestra specialising in the accompaniment of silent films. The Filmorchestra has made numerous appearances in Europe and Japan.
Tikanmäki has also been composing for the theatre, providing music and sound effects for productions in different theaters in Finland.
In addition to music for screen and stage, Anssi Tikanmäki has composed for church organ and released several records chiefly instrumental works for large orchestra.
In 2002 Anssi Tikanmäki Orchestra took action. Since that ATO has been performing in different festivals, concerts and clubs. The orchestra plays Tikanmäki´s instrumental music. In 2013 the legendary singer-songwriter Donovan invited Anssi Tikanmäki Orchestra to accompany him in his tour in Spain and Ireland.
In 2014 Anssi Tikanmäki composed together with Eljas and Eemil Tikanmäki music for Mika Kaurismäki´s epoque film ”The Girl King”. The film is an international production, and the star actors are Malin Buska, Mikael Nyqvist, Sarah Gadon, Francois Arnaud and Marianne Gedeck. Tittle song of the film ”L´Amore” is sung by Johanna Rusanen-Kartano.
Tikanmäki´s most recent film production together with Eljas and Eemil Tikanmäki is the music for Mika Kaurismäki´s feature film ”Master Cheng” (2019).
EEMIL TIKANMÄKI
Eemil Tikanmäki (born 1988) studied music in the Tampere Conservatory. His instruments were
violin and guitar and he was qualified as a violin pedagog at Tampere University of Applied
Sciences. Also he studied music technology and gratuated as live and studio sound engineer.
Eemil Tikanmäki has composed music for his own rock group Haulu.
Since 2005 Eemil Tikanmäki has been member of the Anssi Tikanmäki Filmorchestra and Anssi Tikanmäki Orchestra. Both orchestras has made numerous appearances in Europe and Japan.
Over the years, Eemil has played as session violinist on albums by various artists, for example Yö, Apulanta etc.. He has also played erhu, which can be heard on different recordings and various movie soundtracks.
2014 Eemil Tikanmäki composed together with Anssi and Eljas Tikanmäki music for Mika Kaurismäki’s epoque film ”The Girl King”(2015) and ”Master Cheng” (2019). Same trio made the music for ”The Ragged Life of Juice Leskinen”(2018), film by Teppo Airaksinen. In all three films Eemil has also assisted in recording and mixing.
ELJAS TIKANMÄKI
Eljas Tikanmäki (born 1987) studied music in the Tampere Conservatory. His instruments were percussion and piano. Also he studied composing.
During his studies Eljas also taught numerous young drummers in Tampere. He played in many musicals during this time (as keyboardist and sometimes as drummer) in various theaters.
After these years Eljas played drums for Jonne Aaron’s (Negative) solo project. He played in two albums and toured for couple of years. Following his resignation from J.A. Eljas has focused in Anssi Tikanmäki Filmorchestra and Anssi Tikanmäki Orchestra, being member of both orchestras since 2005 playing hunreds of shows in Finland and world wide.
Eljas Tikanmäki has composed, recorded and mixed music for his own rock group Haulu.
2014 Eljas Tikanmäki composed together with Anssi and Eemil Tikanmäki music for Mika Kaurismäki ́s epoque film ”The Girl King”(2015) and ”Master Cheng” (2019). Same trio made the music for ”The Ragged Life of Juice Leskinen”(2018), film by Teppo Airaksinen. In all three films Eljas has also worked as music recording engineer and scoring mixer.
Eljas Tikanmäki has qualified also with information technology. He is a sound expert having skills of both engineering digital and analog systems.
